Altan Els Sand Dunes in Uvs

Altan Els Sand Dunes is situated in Baruunturuun soum of Uvs province, in the eastern side of Uvs Lake lowland. The sand dunes cover about 177,500 hectare lands and there are several small freshwater creeks, springs and oasis as well as a miniature lake called Duruu in the area. Fauna includes Chinese lyme grass, crested wheatgrass, Artemisia frigida, thymus and willows. To the south of Altan Els, just outside the sand dunes, few pine, larch and sea buckthorn trees grow and that makes the area picturesque.
