Uushigiin Uvur Deer Stone Complex in Khuvsgul Province

Uushigiin Uvur or Uushig Mountain’s mountainside is a historical site located in Murun soum of Khuvsgul province, 20km to the west of Murun town. There are lots of burial mounds and deer stones in the area and you can explore a line of 14 deer stones placed close to each other. And different numbers of deer portraits are carved on the stones and you can see some bow and shield carvings as well. The deer stones date back to 1000 BCE and it is believed that it was erected by Bronze Age nomads, namely Cimmerian, though it is not confirmed yet. The patterns of the deer stone suggests they were built to perform rituals. However, later civilizations sometimes reused the stones for their own burial sites.
