Statue of Genghis Khan in Khentii

Khentii province is arguably the most important place when it comes to the story of Genghis Khan. And accordingly, they have a lot of monuments and locations regarding the conqueror. One of them is a statue of him in Dadal soum of Khentii province, located near Gurvan Nuur camp. The Statue of Genghis Khan was erected in 1962, to honor the 800th anniversary of his birth. It was made by a sculptor named Makhval and the statue is 12m tall and 4m thick with 10m wide foundation. The top of the statue is shaped like a fire, the symbol of eternity and triumph in Mongolian culture. Genghis Khan is carved on the front side of the monument with the white-haired banner behind him and his poem from The Secret History of Mongols written on his left side.
