Shiliin Bogd Mountain in Sukhbaatar

 

Shiliin Bogd Mountain is situated in Dariganga soum of Sukhbaatar province, 60km to the southeast of Dariganga town. This 1778m tall mountain is the tallest of over 200 extinct volcanoes found in the area. The crater of the volcano is 2km wide and 300m deep. There are about 60 Kurgan stelae around Shiliin Bogd Mountain and the mountain has been worshipped by the locals for centuries, especially by men. Because it is the tallest mountain in the even surfaced steppe, Shiliin Bogd Mountain can be observed as far as 60km away and it looks like a tent from far away.
